Apple won 16.6% of the global market for smart phones

Having beaten the Blackberry and Razr, iPhone has taken a big share of those worldwide market smart phones with 16.6%. This may seem little, but in reality it’s already a lot: To understand the importance of these figures, it must look at those of Nokia, which remains by far the market leader in smart phones. But its market share chug from 63.3% to 43.6% only. They are gone below 50% for the first time in many years as graphic Needham.

And, more importantly, this drop corresponds roughly to the rise of the iPhone on the last quarter. In fact, it is thanks to the iPhone that the growth of the smart phone market has not slowed. The market shares of RIM and Windows Mobile remained virtually constant, decreasing slightly. Even if the iPhone is not flying directly to Nokia users (many with iPhone acquire their first smart phone), the figures illustrate the cost to Nokia neglecting some market segments.
