No Zune Phone at CES 2009

Sorry, friends, we wish directly to Brian Seitz, Group Manager of Zune: “No Zunephone at CES.” At least, not Zunephone in the sense that we understand. In recent days, some analysts fueled rumors of a specific piece of hardware for Zune, up to provide details on the equipment. CNBC said that a Zune Phone, called Project Pink, was planned for the ESC. Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, which was a few weeks ago the distinction between hardware Zune Phone and the Pink, reminds us that Pink is not a piece of hardware but a platform of services that could provide services such Zune on platforms like Windows Mobile.

She said yesterday she believed that it would be great if the Pink turning on other devices, and we agree. Mary Jo thinks Pink could make its appearance at CES and with it a platform for content management for mobile devices. While CNBC and the analyst quoted by Barrens spoke with a phone manufacturer and describes an implementation of specific features on the Zune hardware components via Pink, it is not strictly speaking a Zune Phone in since it is not designed by the Entertainment and Devices Microsoft. This contrasts with the approach of Google and its Android platform, where each implementation of the operating system is a Google Phone, since Google does not manufacture any equipment.
